Russia has issued a strong condemnation of Israel's recent killing of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. The Russian Foreign Ministry characterised the act as a political assassination, warning that such violence could lead to severe consequences for Lebanon and the wider Middle East. They stated that this move could "inevitably trigger a new round of violence."
In their statement, the Russian officials emphasised that Israel bears full responsibility for any escalation that follows and called for an immediate end to hostilities.
The situation has escalated since Israel intensified airstrikes across Lebanon, marking its most significant military action in the region since 2006.
Hezbollah confirmed the death of Nasrallah, which occurred during Israeli airstrikes targeting the group's command headquarters in the Dahieh area of Beirut.
These recent developments have heightened the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which reignited on October 8, 2023.
This resurgence of violence began when Hezbollah began launching rockets at Israel in solidarity with Hamas in Gaza, prompting retaliatory strikes from Israel.
As tensions continue to rise, the international community is watching closely, with calls for restraint from various nations. The situation remains fluid, and further developments are anticipated as both sides respond to the escalating conflict.
