Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov attends a meeting with Vladislav Deinego.

The Russian foreign minister has said that any land grab or territorial aggression by Israel against Syria will not be acceptable to Moscow. Russia’s only military base in the Middle East region is located in Syria’s Latakia region, which makes Moscow a stakeholder in the country’s affairs post-Assad removal.

“It constantly condemned the territorial aggression of Israel against Damascus in recent times; any changes or forced attempts of land grabs would not be tolerated by Moscow,” said the Russian foreign minister during a conference in Moscow. Lavrov expressed hope that Syria will ultimately navigate through its current challenges.

Lavrov said, "We are convinced that lasting normalisation in Syria requires inclusive dialogue. We hope the measures announced by the transitional government of President (Ahmad) al-Sharaa will directly advance these chances.”

Further, he said, "We reaffirm our commitment to Syria’s unity, independence, and territorial integrity, and we are prepared to support post-conflict reconstruction.” He called for the lifting of sanctions on the country as Damascus was moving in the right direction, adding that the US lifting sanctions on Syria is a step in the right direction.

Meanwhile, the Syrian foreign minister has accused Israel of exploiting minorities to perpetuate instability and alleged land grab moves in the Golan Heights, occupied by Israel since 1967.

Shaibani said, “Israel is systematically targeting populated areas in Suwayda province to incite civil unrest and to reignite the war in the country.” "Our discussions included Russia’s role in Syria’s economic recovery, grounded in international law and our people’s interests. Our partnership will not dwell on the past but advance through shared responsibility and mutual respect," he said.
