US President Donald Trump has offered advice to his Republican Party after Democrats recorded sweeping victories in key elections across New Jersey, New York and Virginia.
Speaking at the America Business Forum in Miami, Florida, on Wednesday, Trump urged Republicans to focus on presenting facts to voters, saying it was “so easy to win the elections” when doing so.
“Almost 2 million American-born workers are employed today, more than when I took office. That’s nine months ago. Can you imagine?” Trump said.
“And I tell Republicans, if you want to win elections, you gotta talk about these facts. You know, it’s so easy to win elections when you talk about the facts,” he said.
“These are things you have to talk about. It doesn’t just happen, you’ve got to tell them. It’s wonderful to do them, but if people don’t talk about them, then you can do not so well in elections,” Trump added.
The remarks came after Democrats scored significant victories in Tuesday’s elections. In New Jersey, Democratic candidate Mikie Sherril was elected the Governor of New Jersey, defeating Trump-backed Republican Jack Ciattarelli. Sherril secured 56.3 per cent of the vote.
In Virginia, Abigail Spanberger made history by becoming the first woman to hold the governor’s office, winning with a vote share of 57.2 per cent.
Meanwhile, in Trump’s hometown of New York City, democratic-socialist Zohran Mamdani achieved a landmark victory, becoming the first Muslim, Indian-origin and youngest mayor in the city’s history.

Mamdani defeated fellow Democrat candidate and Trump-endorsed Andrew Cuomo, as well as Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa. Mamdani secured 50.4 per cent of the vote.
At the Miami event, Trump once again took aim at Mamdani, referring to him as a “communist” and expressing doubt over his leadership.
While stating that he wished to see the ‘Big Apple’ succeed, Trump remarked that the people of New York City had “installed a communist” in power.
“But the communists, Marxists, socialists and globalists had their chance, and they delivered nothing but disaster. And now let’s see how a communist does in New York. We’re going to see how that works out,” Trump said, adding that he “might” help the city.
During Mamdani’s campaign, Trump had threatened to cut funding for New York and take over the city if the 34-year-old was elected mayor.
