Trump’s ‘sexual predator’ clip adds to Epstein backlash

An old clip of Trump saying “That’s true” after being called a sexual predator on air with daughter Ivanka has resurfaced, fuelling backlash amid the Epstein files scandal.

Donald Trump and Ivanka during a 2006 talk show appearance, where Trump appeared to agree when labelled a “sexual predator,” a remark that has resurfaced during the Epstein controversy.

As allegations surrounding the Epstein scandal cast a long shadow over the US President’s second term, an old video from 2006 has resurfaced, sparking renewed outrage on social media. In the clip, Donald Trump appears to agree with a remark labelling him a “sexual predator” while seated beside his daughter, Ivanka Trump, during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show.

The video, now circulating widely online, shows Trump, Ivanka, and Donald Trump Jr attending the talk show to promote the fifth season of their reality series The Apprentice. During the exchange, host Howard Stern turned the conversation towards Ivanka’s dating history, mentioning her former boyfriend, film producer James ‘Bingo’ Gubelmann.

Stern then pivoted abruptly, saying to Trump: “Well, maybe we need to bring this up. Donald, seriously … you, you, you know about sexual predators and things like that, I mean…?" When co-host Robin Quivers interjected, “You are one!” Trump responded, “That’s true,” prompting laughter from both Ivanka and himself.

The moment, largely forgotten until now, is drawing fierce criticism, especially in light of the Epstein controversy. Social media users, already frustrated with what they allege is a deliberate cover-up of Epstein’s associations, condemned Trump’s reaction in the clip. “Sick! There is no other word for this!” one user posted. Another remarked, “Ladies and gentlemen, the president of the United States.”

Several netizens were especially critical of Ivanka’s laughter during the exchange. “Ivanka thinks this is funny,” one post read, while another questioned, “A daughter laughing after someone calls her father a sexual predator?! These people are very damaged.”

The backlash against Trump has intensified since his re-election, particularly from a faction of his own supporters. Many had expected him to declassify and disclose the Epstein files, a promise he had made repeatedly while campaigning. Instead, critics accuse his administration of shielding high-profile individuals by stalling investigations.

Speculation has grown over whether the late financier Jeffrey Epstein kept a list of powerful clients, and whether that list remains suppressed. Right-wing groups have long promoted the theory that Epstein was murdered in prison to protect influential figures. However, both the Department of Justice and the FBI have denied any such claims, stating there is “no evidence” of blackmail or a hidden client roster.

The resurfacing of the Stern interview has revived broader questions over Trump’s past conduct and the normalisation of inappropriate behaviour under his leadership. The President has not responded to the video or the backlash as of yet.
