US president Donald Trump is all set to meet the UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer during his trip to Scotland without specifying how and when the two leaders are supposed to meet. Starmer would likely try to woo Trump for navigating around the ongoing tariffs imposed on the dozens of major and developing economies in the world.
Though two nations have already signed a trade agreement in May this year, Trump’s latest reiteration on 'refining the deal' has sparked concerns in London. While both leaders have nothing in common, Starmer has found himself in a good relationship with Trump. Starmer’s last visit to Washington went quite well, as he presented a letter from King Charles III, inviting Trump for a second state visit from September 17 to 19.
Trump has always expressed his love for Scotland for the reason that his mother is from the same place. However, there are fears of protest in the Scottish capital against Trump for his unwavering support of Israel, which is conducting a genocidal war in Gaza.
Earlier in March, Trump's resort in Turnberry was vandalised with a message from protesters saying “GAZA IS NOT 4 SALE" sprayed across the grass.
Trump is likely to face massive public backlash over his reluctance and failure to pressure Netanyahu to agree to a ceasefire in Gaza. Scottish people and rights organisations in the country have expressed their support and solidarity with the victims of the Israeli war in Gaza, which has reportedly killed around 20,000 children since the start of the invasion in 2023.
