Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the Armenia-Azerbaijan so-called transit routes pose territorial threats to Iran. He said Tehran rejects US President Donald Trump's moves to create a transit corridor route between Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan enclave through Armenia.

Araghchi described the plan as a foreign intervention near the Iranian border, which would create more tensions between the United States and Iran. On Friday, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister signed a peace agreement to brush aside four decades of long-standing tensions.

The peace deal brokered by the United States president saw both leaders shaking hands after signing the historic peace accords in front of Donald Trump. Both sides reportedly agreed to establish the "Trump route", a transit corridor connecting Azerbaijan and its autonomous Nakhchivan exclave through Armenia.

Trump, while taking credit and pride in the mediation, said, "My highest aspiration is to bring peace and stability to the world." The statement from the Iranian foreign Ministry on Saturday, though, welcomed the US mediation in the peace efforts but also expressed concern about the negative consequences of any foreign intervention in any form or manner, especially near the common borders."

Iran shares its borders and friendly relations with both nations; however, in the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, Iran reportedly supplied Azerbaijan with its "136 Shaheed drones", like Turkey and Israel. Iran has been cautious about the plan, as the passage might cut off a logistics route between Iran and Russia that runs through Armenia in a north-south direction.

Iran's opposition to Trump's announced involvement in the planned creation of the corridor came as Iranian officials regard it as an attempt to contain Iran's influence in the region.
