Who was Agustin Escobar?

Agustin Escobar, a 55-year-old top Spanish executive at technology company Siemens, was renowned as a visionary leader and had experience of over 25 years of overseeing operations in the US, Germany, South America, and Spain in the energy and transport sectors. Agustin Escobar had served as President and CEO of Siemens Spain and CEO of Siemens Mobility Southwest Europe since December 2022.

 

Prior to this, he served as the head of Siemens' Infrastructure & Cities Sector in Latin America and its Energy Management Division from 2014 to 2018.

Prior to becoming the Corporate Director of Strategy and International Business Development for Siemens in North America, Escobar held a number of important positions in Siemens Spain from 1998 to 2010, most of which were focused on the energy industry.

 

He graduated from Madrid's Universidad Pontificia Comillas with a degree in industrial engineering. Escobar has led cross-functional teams in Spain, Latin America, and the United States throughout his career.

 

Escobar started his career at Siemens in 1998 as head of project management and sales for power automation systems in Spain. He progressed through the ranks over time, working on infrastructure projects for electric vehicles and winning numerous Siemens Country Awards.

 

In 2010, he shifted to New York to lead international business development in North America before relocating to Colombia, where he overlooked over 1,300 employees and three factories. In 2016, under his leadership, his is division was named Siemens’ best-performing business worldwide.

 

He went back to Spain in 2018 to take charge of Siemens Rail Automation SAU and Siemens Mobility SLU, managing large rail projects with more than 1,000 workers. From 2019 till 2024, he served as CEO of Siemens Mobility for the Southwest Europe Region, which included Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, and parts of Africa, and managed a staff of more than 3,000 people.
