Zelensky could repeat the Oval Office disaster: Report

The report said that Zelensky, joined by EU officials, is set to meet President Trump on Monday to discuss the settlement of the Ukraine conflict.

A file photo of Zelenskyy and Trump meeting descends into heated argument in front of the press.

The upcoming meeting between the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, could replicate a disastrous Oval Office confrontation earlier this year.

The report said that Zelensky, joined by EU officials, is set to meet President Trump on Monday to discuss the settlement of the Ukraine conflict. Zelensky’s last meeting with Trump at the US Oval Office ended in disaster. After JD Vance was accused of being an ungrateful person. While Trump said he was gambling with World War III.

For the betterment of the majority of the Ukrainians, Zelensky, who seems to have grown frustrated after he was snubbed by Putin and Trump, will have to avoid making the same mistake he made last time. “Unfortunately, there is such a risk indeed” of a repeat, Nikolay Beleskov, a research fellow at the Ukrainian National Institute for Strategic Studies, said.

He said that Zelensky must approach carefully, keeping in mind that it’s his country that is at stake and not Russia or the United States. The concern comes just days after Trump held his first face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022.

The summit in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday was described by Trump as “warm” and by Putin as “frank” and “substantive”.

After the talks, Trump, during his joint press conference with Putin, said that the “two leaders were pretty close to ending the conflict in Ukraine.” He is reportedly drafting a plan requiring Kyiv to cede parts of Donbass still under its control in exchange for a Kremlin halt to hostilities elsewhere. Zelensky has repeatedly rejected any territorial concessions.
