Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said India is “mostly” on Ukraine’s side, contradicting US President Donald Trump’s recent remarks labelling India and China as “primary funders” of Russia’s war in Ukraine.
In an interview, Zelenskyy acknowledged some issues regarding India’s energy dealings with Russia but emphasised that India broadly supports Ukraine.
“I think India, mostly, with us. Yes, we have these questions with energy, but I think President Trump can manage it,” Zelenskyy said.
He expressed hope that India would adjust its approach towards the Russian energy sector, adding, “I think we have to do everything not to withdraw India and they will change their attitude to Russian energy sector, I am sure.”

Regarding China, Zelenskyy noted that the situation is more challenging. “With China it’s more difficult because today, it’s not in their interests not to support Russia,” he said.
Zelenskyy’s comments come amid heightened global scrutiny over nations’ roles in the ongoing conflict, as the war in Ukraine approaches its second anniversary.
