Louis Vuitton's latest women's collection, unveiled at the Cruise 2025 show on May 23, has sparked significant controversy.
Designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, the collection includes an extravagant pair of boots that have quickly become the talk of the fashion world.
These boots feature black fringes at the bottom, resembling a brush, while the top boasts a structured brown pattern with straps.
The brand shared images of the collection on Instagram, captioning them, “Women’s Cruise 2025 Show. Crafted with sumptuous detailing, @NicolasGhesquiere’s latest collection reveals an array of opulent adornments – from glistening embroidery to layered fringes. Watch the full show via link in bio.”
Fashion enthusiasts quickly took to social media to express their opinions. One user commented, “Louis, I love you… really, I do but these ‘shoes’ omgggg. They remind me of an ostrich for some reason.” Another remarked, “The purse is cool… The rest looks like a bad dream.”
A third user added, “These brands don’t even know what to invent anymore. Now they’re copying a house style. We’re trying to be human here. Hello.”
Despite the backlash, Louis Vuitton's website praised the collection, stating, “From sharp tailoring to flamboyant silhouettes enlivened with graphic chiaroscuro, Nicolas Ghesquière imbues his signature style with a passionate Spanish flair, cultivating a multifaceted allure through an emotional journey of discovery.”
This isn’t the first time Louis Vuitton has courted controversy with its designs.
Previous collections have included a microscopic bag priced at Rs 52,27,500, latex balloon pants ranging from Rs 90,200 to Rs 4,14,756, and croissant-shaped crossbody bags for approximately Rs 1,01,680.
