The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has reported alarming figures of violence against Hindus in neighbouring countries.
In 2024, a staggering 2,200 cases of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh were recorded, coinciding with the collapse of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government. Meanwhile, 112 similar cases were reported in Pakistan during the same period.
The Indian government expressed serious concerns about the rising violence against Hindus in Bangladesh and Pakistani Hindus. Through official channels, India urged both countries to ensure the safety and welfare of their Hindu minorities.

In a statement, the MEA emphasised, "India expects the Government of Bangladesh to take all necessary steps to protect Hindus and other minorities."
Similar concerns were conveyed to Pakistan, urging measures to address religious intolerance, sectarian violence, and systemic persecution of minorities.
Data presented in the Rajya Sabha highlighted the sharp rise in violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. While 47 cases were reported in 2022 and 302 in 2023, the numbers surged to 2,200 in 2024 (up to December 8).
In Pakistan, the figures were 241 in 2022, 103 in 2023, and 112 in 2024 (up to October). No incidents were reported in other neighbouring countries.

Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh provided this information, citing data from minority and human rights organisations. He reiterated India’s demand for Bangladesh to take immediate action to safeguard Hindus and other minorities, a point reinforced during the visit of India’s Foreign Secretary to Bangladesh on December 9.
The situation in Bangladesh escalated after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was forced to step down amidst widespread protests. Following her ousting in August, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus took over the government as Hasina sought refuge in India.
The political upheaval strained India-Bangladesh relations, with incidents of Bangladesh violence becoming a significant point of concern.
India continues to highlight the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh and Pakistani Hindus at international forums, urging global attention to ensure justice and protection for minority communities.
The issue remains a key focus in India’s diplomatic efforts to strengthen regional stability and safeguard human rights.
