The Jammu and Kashmir Police have busted an inter-state and transnational terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH), arresting seven people, including two doctors, officials said on Monday. A large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives was seized during the operation.

The joint operation by Faridabad Police and J&K Police led to the recovery of 2,900 kg of IED-making material along with other weapons. Two doctors, including one from Faridabad, were among those arrested. Arms and ammunition were found in their possession earlier, police said.

“In a major counter-terrorism success, J-K Police has busted an inter-state and transnational terror module, linked with proscribed terrorist organisations JeM and AGuH.,” a police spokesperson said. “The operation has led to the arrest of key operatives and recovery of a massive cache of arms, ammunition and explosives, during coordinated searches in J-K and other states,” the spokesperson further added.

Police said the probe began on October 19 after multiple JeM posters were found pasted at various spots in Bunpora, Nowgam area of Srinagar, threatening police and security forces. A case was registered under UAPA, BNS, the Explosive Substances Act and the Arms Act at Nowgam Police Station.

“The investigation has revealed a white collar terror ecosystem, involving radicalised professionals and students in contact with foreign handlers, operating from Pakistan and other countries,” police said. These individuals used encrypted apps for indoctrination, coordination, fund transfer and logistics, police said.

“Funds were raised through professional and academic networks, under the guise of social/charitable causes. The accused were found involved in identifying persons, to radicalise, initiate and recruit them to terrorist ranks, besides raising funds, arranging logistics, procurement of arms/ammunition and material for preparing IEDs,” the police added.

Seven people were arrested during the probe. They were identified as Arif Nisar Dar alias Sahil, Yasir-ul-Ashraf, and Maqsood Ahmad Dar alias Shahid, all residents of Nowgam, Srinagar; Molvi Irfan Ahmad (Imam of a mosque), resident of Shopian; Zameer Ahmad Ahanger alias Mutlasha, from Wakura in Ganderbal; Dr. Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie alias Musaib, from Koil, Pulwama; and Dr Adeel, from Wanpora, Kulgam.

Dr Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie was caught with around 360 kg of suspected ammonium nitrate and a large cache of arms and ammunition from his rented flat in Faridabad. He works as a teacher at Al-Falah University.

Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta said the doctor was also wanted for putting up pro-JeM posters in Srinagar. He was arrested in a joint operation of Faridabad and J&K Police.

Police said more people connected to the case have been identified and will be traced and apprehended soon. Searches were conducted at various locations across Srinagar, Anantnag, Ganderbal and Shopian districts, as well as in Faridabad and Saharanpur with the help of Haryana and UP Police.

During the raids, officers seized documents, electronic gadgets, weapons and IED making material. The recoveries included a Chinese Star pistol with ammunition, a Beretta pistol, an AK-56 rifle with ammunition, an AK Krinkov rifle with ammunition, and 2,900 kg of explosive material with chemicals, electronic circuits, batteries, remote controls, timers, wires and metal sheets.

Police said a detailed financial investigation was underway to trace the flow of funds and all linkages were being followed up swiftly.
