Four persons reportedly died in lightning strikes in Hazaribag district, Jharkhand, an official said on Friday. The incidents were reported from Padma and Churchu blocks on Thursday.
Three persons were killed in Padma block. They were identified as Shiv Pujan Sao and Ajay Sao, both cousins, and Suraj Kandu. They had gone to graze cattle in a field and reportedly taken shelter under a hut when the lightning struck and died on the spot.
In another incident in Churchu village, Gango Kisku was killed after being struck by lightning.
He had gone to a jungle to collect firewood when the incident happened. All four bodies were taken to the Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem on Thursday evening.
Meanwhile, villagers from Padma and Churchu had met with Deputy Commissioner Nancy Sahay and sought financial support for the victims’ kin.
The Deputy Commissioner informed them that a team of officials had been sent to evaluate the loss of property, crops as well as lives and after the report was submitted, compensation would be given according to the government rules.
A 60-year-old woman named Malti Devi was seriously hurt when she was struck by lightning while working in the field near the Ichak police station area.
She was also admitted to the Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital, where she is currently responding to treatment.
