According to locals, the couple always travels together, supporting each other in their twilight years.

In a heartwarming gesture of enduring love, a 93-year-old farmer named Nivrutti Shinde walked into a jewellery store in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, dressed in a traditional white dhoti-kurta and cap, accompanied by his wife, Shantabai. Their modest appearance initially led the store staff to believe they had come seeking financial help or alms.

However, what followed left everyone in the shop deeply moved. Shinde expressed a heartfelt wish to buy a mangalsutra—a sacred necklace symbolising marital commitment—for his wife. Touched by the elderly man’s simple yet profound gesture of love, the shop owner decided to part with the mangalsutra for a symbolic amount of ₹20.

“The couple entered the shop and the man gave me ₹1,120, saying he wanted to buy a mangalsutra for his wife. I was overwhelmed by his gesture. I just took ₹20 from him as a token of blessings and handed over the mangalsutra,” said the shop owner. The emotional moment was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media, amassing over 2 crore views and earning widespread praise for both the elderly couple’s enduring bond and the jeweller’s generosity.

Nivrutti and Shantabai hail from a humble farming family in Ambhora Jahagir village in Jalna district. They are currently on a padayatra (pilgrimage on foot) to Pandharpur for the upcoming Ashadhi Ekadashi celebration, a major religious event in Maharashtra. Locals familiar with the couple shared that the two have always supported each other through every phase of life. Despite having a son, they largely live independently and often rely on the goodwill of strangers during their travels.

The story of Nivrutti and Shantabai has touched the hearts of millions, serving as a reminder that love, when pure and enduring, speaks louder than wealth—and that kindness still finds a way in unexpected places.
