Delhi Police halts AAP film screening, AAP vows to fight back.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has made headlines after screening a controversial trailer of its documentary film, "Unbreakable," despite the Delhi Police halting its initial screening earlier that day.

The film, which has become a political flashpoint, was described by Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj as an attempt to expose a supposed conspiracy orchestrated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Delhi Police to prevent its private screening.

The trailer was unveiled at an AAP office press conference, where Bharadwaj declared that the party would ensure the film reaches every voter in Delhi, asserting, “We will take it to the masses now.”

The film, which has stirred controversy, was originally intended to be shown privately but was thwarted by the police, who cited a lack of proper permissions under the Model Code of Conduct, as Delhi is preparing for upcoming elections.

The 90-second trailer features a candid interview with AAP’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP MP Sandeep Pathak.

In the trailer, Kejriwal talks about his personal struggles during his imprisonment, particularly regarding the denial of insulin for 15 days, which he claims jeopardised his life.

At one point in the footage, Pathak raises questions about a potential plot to harm Kejriwal while he was behind bars, adding a layer of intrigue to the film’s narrative.

The documentary touches on sensitive issues, with Kejriwal denying any wrongdoing in relation to the Delhi excise policy case, in which he was previously arrested. In one striking moment, Kejriwal argues that had he been guilty, he would have joined the BJP to escape prosecution.

The trailer also highlights the challenges faced by AAP, a smaller party, as it took on the might of the BJP in Gujarat elections, portraying the party’s resilience despite facing formidable political opponents.

The screening of the film trailer is just one aspect of the AAP's broader political strategy. Kejriwal has been vocal in condemning the Delhi Police’s actions, accusing them of interference in a private event that was meant to be devoid of any party flags or political agenda.

The AAP leader emphasised that the film was not political and aimed only to provide a personal account of his journey.

Despite the police halting the event, Kejriwal stated that the AAP would continue to explore ways of making the film available to the public, hinting at the potential circulation of the film on social media platforms.

The film’s creators had planned to screen it at Pyarelal Bhawan, but a heavy police presence led to the cancellation of the event.

The situation has sparked a wider debate on freedom of expression and the role of authorities in controlling what is shared in the public domain.

The AAP's claim that the film was being suppressed is a significant element of the party’s broader narrative, which paints the BJP and the Delhi Police as attempting to stifle dissent and opposition.
