Two men accused of firing gunshots at the Bareilly residence of Bollywood actor Disha Patani were killed in a police encounter in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday, according to police reports.
Both suspects were linked to a prominent transnational criminal gang. A Delhi Police officer was injured during the encounter, which was a joint operation involving the Delhi Police’s Special Cell, the Haryana Special Task Force (STF), and the Uttar Pradesh STF.
The incident originated from a shooting in the early hours of September 12, when gunfire targeted Patani’s ancestral home in the Civil Lines area of Bareilly. Police reported that the attack occurred around 3:45 am, disrupting the calm of the quiet residential neighbourhood.
The residence is home to the actor’s family, including her father, retired Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagdish Singh Patani, her mother, and her elder sister, Khushbu Patani, all of whom were present at the time of the shooting.
Gang Takes Responsibility
Shortly after the incident, Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, known for his extensive ties to organised crime networks, claimed responsibility via a social media post. Screenshots of his statement spread online, in which he alleged the attack was in retaliation for remarks purportedly made by Disha Patani and her sister about two religious figures: Sant Premanand Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya.
Police noted that Brar’s post contained explicit threats and mentioned several alleged associates within his network. On Thursday, a coordinated operation by the Delhi Police’s Special Cell, Haryana STF, and Uttar Pradesh STF culminated in a confrontation in Ghaziabad.
According to police, the suspects opened fire on the approaching team. Both were seriously wounded in the ensuing gunfight. After being disarmed, overpowered, and taken to a hospital for treatment, they passed away from their wounds. Arun from Sonipat and Ravindra from Rohtak were named as the suspects.
A Glock handgun, a Zigana handgun, and several live cartridges were among the weapons found in the cache that authorities retrieved from the scene.
