The investigation into the high-profile murder case in Meghalaya has taken a significant turn, with police uncovering crucial details about the movements of the victim’s wife, Sonam and her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, who has already been arrested. The murder of Raja Raghuvanshi is now believed to be a well-orchestrated crime involving meticulous planning and multiple locations across the country.
According to police sources, shortly after her husband’s murder and dumping the body in a gorge, Sonam left for Guwahati in Assam— alone. From there, she travelled to Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh. These unexplained movements raised serious questions and prompted investigators to intensify surveillance on her.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Police took Sonam into custody and transported her by road from Uttar Pradesh to Bihar. As per the latest information, she is being flown from Patna to Guwahati to facilitate further investigation.
However, investigators have expressed concern over her non-cooperative behaviour during questioning. A police officer revealed that Sonam has been repeatedly refusing to respond to any queries, citing severe headaches and sleeplessness. “She’s not even willing to eat,” the officer added.
Perhaps the most startling revelations have come from the investigation into Raj Kushwaha’s role. Though he had maintained a low profile, police have now discovered that he was present during Raja’s last rites. Witnesses have confirmed that he was seen accompanying Sonam’s father, Devi Singh, who was reportedly devastated by the loss of his son-in-law.
Eyewitness Laxman Singh Rathore told police that Sonam’s family attended the funeral in four or five cars, with Raj himself driving one of the vehicles. Rathore added that Raj didn’t speak a word throughout the journey.
According to the police, Raj had been in regular contact with Sonam and had planned the murder from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Investigators believe that Raj deliberately stayed behind to avoid suspicion while coordinating the execution of the murder.
In a joint effort between the Meghalaya and Uttar Pradesh Police, three other suspects — Vishal Chavan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi — were also arrested. Police believe that Raj orchestrated the murder through these three men. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Rajesh Dandotia, said that the accused travelled from Madhya Pradesh to Bihar and then proceeded by train to Guwahati before finally reaching Meghalaya.
The investigation is still ongoing, with multiple agencies coordinating across state lines to piece together the complex web of events that led to Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder. Police say further questioning of the accused, especially Sonam, is crucial to unravelling the full extent of the conspiracy.
