Investigators probe Air India crash in Gujarat.

Rescuers on Saturday recovered another body from the wreckage of Air India Flight AI-171, which crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad airport on Thursday afternoon, officials said.

The body, believed to have been trapped in the tail section of the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, was discovered lodged in the rooftop of a doctors’ hostel near a medical college in the Meghani Nagar area. The tail has remained embedded in the building since the crash.

The London-bound flight went down just 33 seconds after take-off, slamming into a densely populated residential area. The impact caused widespread destruction and a growing death toll, which has now reached at least 265, including dozens of residents on the ground.

Air India Flight AI-171 was carrying 242 people, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese nationals, one Canadian, and 12 crew members. Only one passenger survived—Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British national who was seated in 11A.

A team from the National Security Guard (NSG) has been deployed to assist in ongoing relief operations at the crash site. While NSG commandos were seen on the rooftop of the hostel where the tail remains lodged, officials clarified that the elite force is not involved in the investigation itself.

Multiple agencies are now conducting a joint probe into the tragedy.

These include the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Ahmedabad crime branch, and local police. Officers from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) also inspected the scene on Friday.

Authorities have stated that DNA testing on remains recovered from the site will be expedited, with the identification process expected to conclude within three days.
