Protests broke out at a school in Ahmedabad on Wednesday morning, hours after a Class 10 student died from injuries sustained in a stabbing attack outside the school gate the previous day.
Police said the victim, aged 15, was allegedly stabbed in the stomach by a Class 8 student of the same school following an altercation that had occurred a week earlier. The boy was rushed to a private hospital but succumbed to his injuries at 3 a.m. on Wednesday.
The incident sparked widespread anger, with protests escalating as the victim and the accused belonged to different communities. Members of the VHP and Bajrang Dal joined the demonstrations, which turned violent.
Teachers and the principal were assaulted, and parts of the school building and property were damaged before police brought the situation under control by around 2 p.m.
Senior police officials and local politicians appealed to the protestors to remain calm. JCP (Crime) Sharad Singhal, who was at the scene, confirmed, “The protestors sought that the Crime Branch investigate the case and the Commissioner has handed the case to the Crime Branch.”

Earlier, Singhal said investigators were reviewing CCTV footage and examining the crime scene to check whether any evidence had been destroyed. He added that while the primary accused juvenile was detained on Tuesday, another juvenile was also being questioned.
The victim had been attacked at about 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, shortly after leaving the school gate. Police said the 16-year-old accused approached him and allegedly stabbed him, leading to the fatal injuries.
On Wednesday afternoon, the boy’s family took out a procession with his body and placed it outside the school gates.
Following the incident, the District Education Officer (city) issued a notice to the school management, seeking an explanation.
Rohit Chaudhary, DEO (city), told this newspaper, “The school management has been asked to submit their detailed response on how this incident happened, where the security was placed; if the incident did not happen on the campus but close by as revealed in the primary investigation, how did the victim student soaked in blood come inside the school premises after the attack, and what action the management took. It shows a lapse on the school’s part in informing the district education authorities, and taking appropriate action.”
