Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav visited King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow on Monday, where he attended a blood donation camp organised by party workers from the PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) community, on the eve of his birthday.
Yadav, who turns 51 on Tuesday, was born on July 1, 1973, in Saifai, Etawah, and is currently the Member of Parliament for Kannauj.
Extending his thanks to the volunteers, Yadav said, “I thank and express my appreciation to all our dedicated PDA family workers participating in today’s blood donation camp.” He described the PDA initiative as a movement uniting marginalised and oppressed groups in society.

Taking a jibe at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister accused the government of triggering an "undeclared emergency" in trade and industry.
“They (BJP) are selling institutions and establishments at throwaway prices to their associates. According to reports, a major institution is also close to being sold,” Yadav alleged. “If trade and industry thrive, ordinary lives improve and employment opportunities grow.”
Speaking about KGMU, he said the medical university is not only a premier institution in India but also recognised globally. He pledged to strengthen it further if the Samajwadi Party returns to power.

“When the Samajwadi government comes to power, we will provide all necessary resources to make it the best institution in the world, and ensure proper medical care for the poor,” he said.
On environmental issues, Yadav criticised the BJP for failing to clean rivers despite significant budget allocations. “Rivers are not being cleaned, but the budget is being siphoned off. That is why the Gomti remains dirty. It was becoming beautiful during the SP regime, but they have ruined it,” he said.
As a tribute to freedom fighter Veerangana Uda Devi, Yadav announced that a statue of her will be installed at the Gomti riverfront in Lucknow.
