Indian Golf Star Anirban Lahiri Talks Significance of Series India.

Anirban Lahiri has described the International Series India as a vital milestone for the growth of the Asian Tour, underscoring its importance for Indian golf.

The event, scheduled to take place next week at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram, is anticipated to be the largest golf tournament ever hosted in the country.

Lahiri, a celebrated figure in Indian golf and a seven-time Asian Tour winner, is set to compete alongside his Crushers GC teammates. This includes captain Bryson DeChambeau, the reigning U.S. Open champion, and Paul Casey, a seasoned winner on the international golf circuit.

Since the inception of The International Series in 2022, Lahiri has been a consistent presence, participating in multiple tournaments. In 2024, he achieved commendable results with two top-20 finishes, including a tied fifth place at the International Series Qatar and a tied seventeenth at the International Series England.

The experienced golfer, proud to represent India on the global stage, expressed his hope that the tournament becomes a recurring fixture on the Asian Tour calendar. He emphasised the significance of hosting this event in India, calling it a natural fit for the country and the Asian Tour.

“It’s only fitting that The International Series presented by DLF comes to India. I would love for International Series India to be an annual fixture because it deserves that recognition. It’s a synergetic event for everything the country and the Asian Tour have achieved together,” Lahiri remarked.

He also credited DLF for their efforts in making the tournament a reality and expressed optimism that it would grow into a highlight event for the subcontinent.

Lahiri reflected on the integral role the Asian Tour has played in nurturing Indian golf. He pointed to the careers of icons such as Jeev Milkha Singh and S.S.P. Chawrasia, who, like himself, owe much of their success to the platform provided by the Asian Tour.

He praised the strong historical connection between Indian golf and the tour, noting the gratitude many Indian players feel for the opportunities it has created.

In addition to his achievements on the Asian Tour, Lahiri has had a noteworthy year on the LIV Golf League in 2024, securing four top-10 finishes, including a second-place finish at LIV Golf Andalucia and tied sixth finishes in Chicago, Houston, and Jeddah.

However, he acknowledged the need for greater consistency in his game as he looks ahead to the 2025 season.

“I hold myself to high standards of consistency,” Lahiri admitted. “I wasn’t very consistent last year. My goal is to play at a higher level throughout the year and to be in contention more often. My game plateaued a bit, and I’m focused on elevating it again. That first win is a monkey I need to get off my back.”
