Infiltration attempt foiled in Gurez two terrorists dead.

The Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in the Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir, killing two terrorists in the process, officials said on Thursday.

The encounter unfolded near Naushehra Naar under Operation Naushera Nar IV, when alert troops spotted a group of infiltrators attempting to cross into Indian territory. The soldiers challenged them, prompting a brief exchange of fire in which two terrorists were gunned down.

At first light, the Army launched a large-scale search operation across the area to rule out the presence of other infiltrators. The bodies of the slain terrorists were recovered during the sweep.

“Based on intelligence provided by JKP regarding a likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and @JmuKmrPolice in Gurez Sector. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists. Operation is in progress,” the Army stated in a post on X.

The fresh infiltration attempt comes as security forces continue counter-terror operations in Kashmir. Earlier this month, three terrorists were killed and a soldier injured in Operation Akhal. The total number of terrorists eliminated under the operation reached six.

On 2 August, three militants were killed in an encounter in the Akhal forest area after intelligence inputs suggested the presence of armed men in the region. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation, which escalated into a gun battle when the militants opened fire on advancing troops.

The encounter was briefly suspended overnight and resumed the next morning, leading to the elimination of three more terrorists. Officials confirmed that the militants neutralised in Operation Akhal were linked to The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy group of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

The TRF had previously claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 civilians dead. Security agencies have since intensified surveillance in the Valley, deploying high-tech monitoring systems and elite paramilitary units to counter infiltration and militant activity.
