Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, a member of the recent Axiom 4 mission, shared details of his personal and professional journey at a recent Indian Air Force (IAF) event. Shukla revealed that he was a "shy and reserved" child who never initially harbored the ambition of space travel.
He said that even though he heard stories about India's first astronaut, Rakesh Sharma, growing up, the idea of becoming an astronaut didn't really catch his interest until much later in life.
A big achievement was achieved with the Axiom 4 mission, as it made Shubhanshu Shukla the first Indian to go to the International Space Station (ISS). Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently praised him and the other three Gaganyaan astronauts for taking part in the mission.
Minister Singh talked about the bigger meaning of the Gaganyaan mission in his speech, calling it a sign of a "new chapter" in the journey towards making India self-reliant and independent.
