The Delhi Police have registered an FIR against Bibhav Kumar based on the statement of Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal.
The FIR, filed on Thursday, accuses Kumar of physically assaulting Maliwal, including slapping, kicking, and hitting her in the stomach.
The charges are under sections 354, 506, 509, and 323 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to assault with intent to outrage a woman's modesty and criminal intimidation.
Maliwal visited the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, for a medical examination following the alleged assault.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday in the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
A two-member police team, led by Additional Commissioner P S Kushwaha, recorded Maliwal’s statement at her home around 1:50 PM on Thursday.
According to Maliwal, the assault took place in Kejriwal's drawing room when Bibhav Kumar barged in and attacked her.
She stated that Kejriwal was present in the house during the incident. Following her statement, Maliwal took to social media platform X, describing the attack as "extremely bad" and assured that appropriate actions were being taken.
She urged political parties, particularly the BJP, to refrain from politicising the issue.
"Those who tried to indulge in character assassination said that I was doing it at the behest of the other party, God bless them too," she wrote.
The police stated that Maliwal initially reported the assault at the Civil Lines police station but left without filing a formal complaint.
AAP leader Sanjay Singh confirmed the incident occurred in Kejriwal's drawing room and that the Chief Minister had acknowledged the assault and promised appropriate action.
During a press conference held by the INDIA bloc in Lucknow, Kejriwal avoided questions regarding Maliwal's allegations.
Meanwhile, BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia alleged that Kumar was seen with Kejriwal in Lucknow and referred to the Delhi Chief Minister as a "goon."
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned Bibhav Kumar following the allegations.
Reportedly, teams of the Delhi Police’s Special Cell and Crime Branch have been deployed to arrest Kejriwal's aide.
