Bihar SIR on track with 98.2 pc elector documents in.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday said it has received documents from 98.2 per cent of electors in Bihar during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, with eight days still remaining for claims and objections to be filed.

In a press note, the Commission said that following the completion of the enumeration phase between June 24 and July 25, and the publication of draft electoral rolls on August 1, the period for claims, objections and submission of documents is underway and will end on September 1.

The ECI said that in 60 days, 98.2 per cent of electors have submitted their documents, averaging 1.64 per cent per day. “There are still eight days to go till September 1 with just 1.8 per cent electors remaining for submission of the documents,” the statement said.

The Commission noted that the collection of documents through BLOs and volunteers is continuing, and, like the enumeration phase, the exercise is likely to be completed ahead of schedule.

Verification of documents is being carried out concurrently by 243 EROs and 2,976 AEROs in line with SIR orders dated June 24.

According to the Commission, out of 7.24 crore electors in the draft rolls, 0.16 per cent of claims and objections have been received so far.

These include ten complaints from the BLAs of 12 recognised political parties in Bihar, none from individuals outside their Assembly constituency, and 1,21,143 from electors within their constituency.

The ECI said that 3,28,847 new electors, who attained or will attain the age of 18 years on or before 1 July or 1 October respectively, have also submitted Form 6 along with their declaration.

The Commission confirmed that the Bihar SIR remains on schedule. “The decision on all the claims and objections received, and verification of eligibility documents is to be completed by the concerned EROs/AEROs by 25 September 2025 and after final checking, the final electoral rolls are to be published on 30 September 2025,” it said.

The Commission commended the efforts of the CEO of Bihar, DEOs of all 38 districts, 243 EROs, 2,976 AEROs, 90,712 BLOs, lakhs of volunteers, and the participation of field representatives of all 12 major political parties, including their district presidents and 1.60 lakh BLAs appointed by them.

It added that the claims and objections period is an opportunity for electors to rectify errors in the draft electoral rolls and submit any missing documents from the enumeration stage.
