The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) today launched a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing it of extorting money under the guise of registration for the proposed "GoGo Didi" scheme ahead of the Assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, JMM General Secretary and Spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya alleged that the BJP had engaged in fraudulent practices related to the scheme.
He claimed that individuals were charged ₹500 each to complete the GoGo Didi registration forms and demanded that the extorted money be reimbursed.
Bhattacharya further suggested that the BJP should secure approval from the Central Government to implement the GoGo Didi scheme and provide ₹2,100 to women nationwide.
Bhattacharya also highlighted the fulfilment of the JMM’s promise to increase the honourarium for women to ₹2,500 per month starting in December. He noted that the initiative has made Jharkhand the first state in the country to economically empower 56 lakh women on such a large scale.
Criticising state BJP president Babulal Marandi, Bhattacharya labelled him a "great scholar" of the BJP and criticised the party’s inability to appoint a legislative party leader even a month after the Assembly’s formation.
He further condemned the BJP for failing to fulfil its promise of purchasing paddy at ₹3,200 per quintal, questioning when the party had ever procured paddy at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) during its tenure.
Bhattacharya lamented the loss of hundreds of farmers’ lives across the country and accused the BJP of spreading misinformation in Jharkhand.
The JMM leader assured that all pending government appointments in Jharkhand would be completed this year. He urged the youth not to be misled by the BJP or resort to court proceedings without solid evidence.
He encouraged them to report legitimate concerns to the state government and reaffirmed that local residents would be prioritised in all upcoming recruitment processes.
