The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a sharp criticism of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing it of backing illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators in Delhi.
Smriti Irani, BJP leader and former Union Minister, made these claims during a press conference on Sunday, stating that two AAP legislators were involved in a conspiracy to produce fake voter and Aadhaar cards for infiltrators ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections.
Irani directed her criticism at AAP leaders, questioning their silence on issues related to national security and accusing them of enabling the infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals into the country.
She further demanded answers from AAP, highlighting the grave impact that such actions could have on the democratic structure of India.
The BJP leader emphasised the seriousness of the matter, suggesting that the creation of fake voter cards and Aadhaar documents was a deliberate attempt to manipulate the electoral process and undermine the nation’s security.
The focus of Irani’s allegations fell on two AAP MLAs—Mohinder Goyal and Jai Bhagwan Upkar—who, she claimed, were complicit in the creation of fake Aadhaar cards for Bangladeshi infiltrators.
According to Irani, these individuals had failed to cooperate with the Delhi Police despite receiving multiple notices.
The Delhi Police had issued a second notice to Goyal, seeking his appearance for questioning in connection with the investigation into forged documents that had been discovered during a police crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
The controversy surfaced following a recent operation by Delhi Police, which uncovered a criminal network involved in the illegal migration of Bangladeshi nationals.
During the raid, police discovered fake documents, including Aadhaar cards, bearing the signatures and seals of MLA Mohinder Goyal.
The police operation, which led to the arrest of several Bangladeshi nationals, is part of a broader two-month verification campaign ordered by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. The campaign aims to identify and deport illegal migrants from the capital.
In response to the police action, Goyal stated that he would not appear for questioning immediately, offering a delay of ten days. This delay has raised further questions about the MLA’s involvement in the matter.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police continues its investigation into the gang responsible for creating forged Aadhaar cards and other official documents.
Over 30 illegal Bangladeshi migrants have been arrested and deported from Delhi so far, as part of the ongoing crackdown.
The BJP’s strong criticism of AAP, alongside the police’s efforts to dismantle the network of illegal migrants, has escalated the political discourse on national security and the integrity of India’s democratic institutions.
