The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has posted a sweeping victory across Gujarat’s municipal corporations, securing a dominant share of seats and pushing both the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the margins in major urban centres.

The outcome highlights BJP’s continued political control in urban Gujarat, with multiple municipal corporations witnessing near-total dominance by the party.
In the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (192 seats), the BJP won 158 seats, while the Congress managed 22. Surat once again proved to be a BJP bastion.

Out of 120 seats, the BJP captured 115, AAP won four and the Congress could secure only one seat. The result reflects a steep decline for AAP, which had performed relatively better in the previous election cycle.

In Rajkot (72 seats), the BJP won 65 seats, Congress took seven, and AAP failed to open its account. Vadodara (76 seats) saw the BJP secure 69 seats, Congress win six, while AAP drew a blank.

In Bhavnagar (52 seats), the BJP bagged 44 seats, Congress won eight, and AAP again did not register any victories. In Karmasad-Anand (52 seats), the BJP secured 43 seats, Congress won eight, and one seat went to an Independent. Gandhidham (52 seats) saw BJP take 41 seats against Congress’s 11.
In Nadiad (52 seats), the BJP came close to a clean sweep with 51 seats, leaving Congress with just one. Navsari (52 seats) recorded BJP at 50 seats and Congress at 2.

Porbandar (52 seats) and Morbi (52 seats) saw complete BJP dominance, with the party winning all seats in both municipal bodies. Surendranagar (52 seats) also delivered an almost total sweep, with BJP winning 51 seats and Congress managing just 1. In Mehsana (52 seats), BJP won 47 seats and Congress secured five. Vapi (52 seats) saw BJP at 37 seats, Congress at 11, and Independents winning four. Jamnagar (64 seats) recorded BJP with 54 seats, Congress with two, and AAP also with two.

Across 84 municipalities (2,030 seats), the BJP secured 1,791 seats, Congress won 414, and others accounted for 144. In 34 district panchayats (1,090 seats), BJP won 568 seats, Congress 77, and others 30. In 260 taluka panchayats (5,234 seats), BJP secured 2,397 seats, Congress won 591, and others took 329.
The results underline the BJP’s strong organisational reach across Gujarat’s urban and semi-urban regions. The limited presence of AAP, restricted to a handful of seats in Surat and Jamnagar, and the scattered performance of the Congress indicate an expanding electoral gap in the state’s political landscape.
