BSF neutralises seven terrorists in Jammu infiltration bid

The Border Security Force (BSF) said it killed seven terrorists attempting to infiltrate from across the India-Pakistan International Border in Jammu’s Samba sector on the intervening night of 8-9 May.

The force also destroyed a Pakistan Rangers post that was providing cover fire to the intruders.

According to a BSF spokesperson, a "big group" of terrorists was detected by the surveillance grid as it approached the border in the Samba sector.

"The infiltration bid was supported by fire from the Pakistan Rangers post at Dhandhar, which was also destroyed in the operation," the spokesperson said, adding that thermal imagery confirmed the destruction.

Acting with precision, alert Border Security Force (BSF) troops engaged infiltrators in a fierce exchange of fire, neutralising at least seven terrorists, the BSF confirmed on Friday. In addition to the heavy casualties, retaliatory action by BSF personnel caused extensive damage to the Dhandhar post in Pakistan.

The BSF, tasked with securing the 3,323 km India-Pakistan border, also released footage from a Hand-Held Thermal Imager (HHTI) capturing the destruction of the Pakistani post, underscoring the intensity of the exchange.

The operation came a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah held crucial discussions with the Director Generals of all border guarding forces, reviewing the security situation along India's borders.

The high-level meeting focused on assessing operational readiness in the wake of escalating hostilities, as Pakistan launched a significant missile and drone attack on Thursday night, targeting India's Jammu region and Rajasthan, including Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, Arnia, and Jaisalmer. However, all incoming missiles were intercepted by India's air defence units, preventing major damage.

During a separate briefing with the BSF Director General, Shah reviewed the security posture in the border areas, emphasising the need for heightened vigilance.

The BSF’s swift response followed reports of additional explosions in Jammu and Jaisalmer on Thursday night, which triggered air-raid sirens and led to civilian evacuations in several border regions.

Pakistan's recent attacks came in the wake of India's "Operation Sindoor" on May 7, during which Indian forces carried out precision missile strikes on nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The strikes were aimed at terrorist infrastructure linked to groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, in retaliation for an April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians.
