In the wake of recent heavy rains in Delhi, a significant incident occurred in Mahendru Enclave, Model Town. On Saturday, a building collapse was reported, sparking immediate concern for those possibly trapped under the debris.
The building, an old banquet hall, crumbled around 3 PM, according to local resident Paras. He described the scene, noting that some repair work was underway at the rear of the structure at the time of the collapse. Paras, who witnessed the incident, fled the area, and his child sustained minor injuries.
Delhi Fire Services responded swiftly to the emergency, and a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was deployed to the site. The urgency of the situation is underscored by the ongoing search and rescue operations. As of now, more information about the number of individuals trapped or the extent of their injuries is awaited.
This tragic event follows another incident from Friday in the Dichaon area, where heavy rains caused a wall of an MCD school to collapse along with an uprooted tree.
The incident injured two individuals, Rajesh, 25, and Ashok Kumar Yadav, 32, who were caught underneath the falling debris while seeking shelter from the rain. The victims were transported to Rao Tula Ram Memorial Hospital, where they received treatment and were later discharged.
The recent downpours have exposed vulnerabilities in the infrastructure, with the collapse of both the school wall and the banquet hall highlighting the severe impact of adverse weather conditions. Authorities are continuing to assess the damage and respond to the ongoing challenges posed by the rains.
