The union cabinet sanctioned the establishment of 13 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in Jammu and Kashmir to further improve access to education in the region.
In the Jammu division, the new KVs will be established in Gool, Ramban, Bani, and Ramkote in Kathua district, Reasi and Kakriyal Katra, Mughal Maidan (Kishtwar), Gulpur (Poonch), Vijaypur (Samba), and Panchari (Udhampur).
In the Kashmir valley, the approved KVs will be established in Drugmulla (Kupwara), Ratnipora, and GalanderChandhara (Pulwama).
Jammu and Kashmir has received the highest number of KVs among all states and Union territories in the country.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, in a post on social media X, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving new KVs to be set up in the Union Territory.
“Thanks, PM Sh @narendramodiji for giving special consideration to Jammu and Kashmir. Union Cabinet approves 13 new Kendriya Vidyalayas for different locations across J&K, out of which over 50% fall in Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency,” he wrote.
The announcement was made during the cabinet committee on economic affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who approved the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas under the civil/defence sector across the country and the expansion of one existing KV, i.e., KV Shivamogga, District Shivamogga, Karnataka, to facilitate an increased number of Central Government employees by adding two additional sections in all the classes under the Kendriya Vidyalaya Scheme (Central Sector Scheme).
The total estimated requirement of funds for setting up 85 new KVs and expansion of 01 existing nearby KV is Rs. 5872.08 crore (approx.) spread over eight years from 2025-26.
