Delhi is experiencing cold weather on the last day of 2024, with temperatures dropping sharply at night. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that temperatures in the Western Himalayan regions will remain steady, but central and eastern India will see a drop of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.
Cloudy skies on New Year's Eve
The IMD forecast predicts cloudy skies for New Year's Eve (December 31). Temperatures are expected to range from a low of 10.05°C to a high of 20.84°C. The relative humidity is at 38 per cent, with winds blowing at 38 km/h.
No immediate relief in the New Year
Delhi residents won’t see any quick relief from the cold wave in the New Year. On Wednesday, January 1, temperatures are expected to range from 13.57°C in the morning to 22.18°C in the afternoon.
Humidity will be at 21 per cent. However, temperatures may rise slightly in the second week of January.

Snow and rain expected
Snowfall is predicted in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh over the next few days. The IMD has issued warnings for ground frost in Northeast India and Himachal Pradesh.
Dense fog conditions will persist for the next couple of days but should improve by January 3.
The rain that hit Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) didn’t provide long-lasting relief as the air quality worsened. On December 31, the average Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was at 236, falling into the 'poor' category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
