Kharge, Delhi CM Gupta, Kejriwal remember Sheila Dikshit on 6th death anniversary.

On the occasion of Sheila Dikshit’s sixth death anniversary, the Delhi Congress paid rich tributes to the former Chief Minister, describing her as the "architect" of modern Delhi. A commemorative event was held on Sunday, where senior party leaders, workers, and family members gathered to remember her enduring legacy and transformative leadership.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Devender Yadav led the homage, lauding Dikshit’s 15-year tenure as Chief Minister as a period of unprecedented development and progress in the capital. Yadav credited her with shaping Delhi into a model city and ushering in what he termed a “golden era” of governance and infrastructure growth.

During the tribute event, Congress leaders highlighted several key initiatives undertaken under Dikshit’s leadership, including the expansion of the Delhi Metro network, the introduction of a CNG-based public transport system, the construction of state-of-the-art hospitals, and the establishment of new universities and schools. She was also remembered for her efforts to enhance Delhi’s green cover and urban infrastructure.

Yadav strongly criticised both the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party, accusing them of dismantling the welfare schemes that Dikshit had introduced for slum dwellers, Dalits, minorities, and economically weaker sections. He alleged that the developmental framework built during her tenure was systematically weakened by successive governments.

He further attacked the current BJP-led municipal administration and the earlier AAP government for what he described as unfulfilled promises, including failing to curb pollution, clean the Yamuna river, enhance women’s safety, provide employment to the youth, and rehabilitate slum residents. According to Yadav, the city’s governance has deteriorated since Dikshit left office.

Sheila Dikshit’s children—former MP Sandeep Dikshit and daughter Latika—were also present to pay their respects. Other senior Congress leaders in attendance included Dr Narendra Nath, Mangat Ram Singhal, Yoganand Shastri, Kiran Walia, and Udit Raj, all of whom offered floral tributes and remembered Dikshit’s commitment to inclusive development and progressive governance.

Sheila Dikshit, who served as Delhi’s Chief Minister from 1998 to 2013, remains one of the most influential political figures in the city's history. Her contributions continue to be acknowledged across party lines, particularly in areas of infrastructure, education, and social welfare.
