The Congress party is gearing up for a nationwide campaign demanding the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. According to Congress leader Pawan Khera, the party plans to organise press conferences in 150 cities across the country on December 22 and 23.
This move follows Shah’s controversial remarks about Dr B.R. Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha, which the Congress has condemned as disrespectful.
Khera explained that the press conferences will be conducted by Congress MPs from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, along with members of the Congress Working Committee.
The aim is to highlight the party’s dissatisfaction with Shah’s comments and to intensify the call for his resignation.
Babasaheb Ambedkar March on Dec 24
To further amplify their protest, the Congress will hold Babasaheb Ambedkar Samman Marches on December 24 at district headquarters across India.
During these marches, Congress leaders will submit memoranda to district collectors addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, reiterating their demand for the Home Minister’s resignation.
The Congress has been vocal in accusing Amit Shah of undermining the legacy of Dr Ambedkar, one of India’s foremost architects of the Constitution.
By organising a series of press events and public marches, the party seeks to engage the public and rally support for their campaign.
The Babasaheb Ambedkar Samman Marches are expected to draw attention to the Congress’s commitment to safeguarding Ambedkar’s ideals and resisting any perceived attempts to tarnish his legacy.
This extensive mobilisation is part of the Congress’s strategy to hold the ruling government accountable for its statements and actions.
