A criminal complaint has been filed against BJP leader Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma at the Bara Khamba Police Station in New Delhi for allegedly distributing cash to voters in an attempt to influence the outcome of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
The complaint accuses Verma, a former Member of Parliament for West Delhi, of offering bribes to sway voters ahead of the elections. The complaint claims that such actions undermine the political environment and distort the fairness of the electoral process.
The charges state that Verma, along with other unidentified individuals, is involved in bribery with the intention of inducing voters to exercise their electoral rights in a manner favourable to him.
The complaint also alleges that Verma used false documents to support his claims and that his actions were intended to manipulate the public perception of the election.
The complaint, filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023, argues that the use of cash as a bribe poses a threat to the democratic and social fabric of Indian society.
The filing party suggests that Verma’s actions, in collaboration with others, were pre-planned and deliberately aimed at gaining an unfair advantage in the election process.
The complaint further highlights the damaging impact of such conduct on the integrity of the election and the level playing field that is essential for a free and fair democratic process.
By offering cash and creating fabricated documents, the BJP leader is accused of jeopardising the rule of law and the fundamental principles of democracy.
