The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in the capital for allegedly engaging in espionage activities and passing classified national security information to Pakistan Intelligence Officers (PIOs) since 2023.
The accused, identified as Moti Ram Jat, was detained and arrested in Delhi, according to a statement issued by the anti-terror agency on Monday. Officials said Jat had been “actively involved in espionage” and had shared sensitive security details with operatives linked to Pakistan’s intelligence establishment.
According to investigators, Jat received funds from Pakistani handlers via multiple channels to facilitate the exchange of intelligence. The NIA stated that further interrogation is underway to determine the full extent of the security breach and the nature of the information compromised.
The Special Court at Patiala House Courts has remanded the accused to NIA custody until 6 June, allowing the agency additional time for questioning.
The arrest comes amid a nationwide crackdown on suspected espionage networks operating in northern India, triggered by heightened security concerns following the 22 April terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

Over the past fortnight, security agencies have arrested at least a dozen individuals from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh for suspected links to a Pakistan-sponsored intelligence ring. Investigators believe this network was systematically targeting individuals with access to strategic data.
Among those detained are two women—Jyoti Malhotra, a social media influencer from Haryana with over 3.77 lakh subscribers on YouTube and 1.33 lakh Instagram followers, and 31-year-old Guzala from Punjab. Both women were allegedly in direct contact with a Pakistani intelligence officer, Ehsan-ur-Rahim, alias Danish, who is currently posted at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
Officials said the operation is ongoing, and further arrests are likely as agencies tighten surveillance across strategic sectors. The developments underscore persistent efforts by Pakistan’s intelligence apparatus to infiltrate and compromise Indian security institutions.
