Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) is scheduled to meet later this week and may place multiple proposals for the Indian Armed forces. The procurement proposals worth ₹1,00,000 crore, as India's step to modernise Army, Air Force, and Navy may get the green signal.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh heads the DAC.
One of the key proposals likely to be cleared is the upgrade of the Su-30MKI fighter aircraft fleet. The proposal, discussed during recent talks between Defence Minister Singh and his Russian counterpart Andrey Belousov at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, is expected to boost the operational capabilities of the IAF's frontline aircraft.
Purchasing Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) systems is yet another significant priority on the agenda. These indigenous missile systems, which are valued at approximately ₹30,000 crore, are made to defend against aerial threats from a distance of up to 30 kilometers.

Furthermore, the purchase of three I-STAR (intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance) aircraft for the IAF is anticipated to be approved by the DAC. The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) will modify these aircraft to satisfy the particular requirements after purchasing them from an original equipment manufacturer.
For the Indian Navy, what's in?
With the proposed purchase of pressure-triggered naval mines created by DRDO, the Navy is also expected to gain from the approvals. The purpose of these mines is to strengthen the country's maritime security and counter potential underwater threats.
