Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed shock and extended condolences after a mass shooting at a high school in Canada’s British Columbia left 10 people dead, including the suspected shooter.
“Deeply shocked by the horrendous shooting in Canada. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. India stands in solidarity with the people of Canada in this moment of profound grief,” Modi wrote on X.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), six victims were found dead inside Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia’s Peace region on Tuesday. Another person died while being transported to hospital. Two others were airlifted with serious or life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, described in an emergency alert as a “female in a dress with brown hair”, was found dead at the scene with what authorities said appeared to be a self-inflicted injury.
Around 25 additional individuals were being assessed and treated for injuries at a local medical centre, police said. The Public Incident Public Alert issued earlier in the day was later cancelled after investigators confirmed there was no ongoing threat to the public.
The attack is being described as one of the worst school shootings in Canada in recent years, prompting an outpouring of grief and condolences from leaders across the world.
