Ahead of the highly anticipated Delhi Assembly elections, the city’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), R Alice Vaz, has launched the "Myth vs Facts Register" to tackle the rising challenge of fake news and misinformation.

With just three weeks remaining before voters head to the polls, this initiative aims to ensure that the electorate and media organisations have access to accurate and factual information, free from the influence of false narratives.

The growing spread of misinformation, particularly in the midst of election seasons, has become a significant concern. Recognising this, CEO Vaz emphasised the importance of countering fake news to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

The "Myth vs Facts Register" serves as a resource that helps voters navigate through misleading or false claims that often circulate during such times.

The platform, available at https://www.ceodelhi.gov.in/mythvsfacts.aspx, allows users to access updates and clarifications on any false information circulating on social media.

The initiative intends to ensure that any fake news or misleading content related to the elections is carefully examined, verified, and debunked. This move comes as part of an effort to promote transparency and combat the growing influence of disinformation in the political landscape.

In her remarks, CEO Vaz acknowledged the detrimental effects of misinformation, particularly as Delhi prepares for the election.

"This initiative is a significant step towards safeguarding Delhi voters from the harmful effects of fake news. By promoting transparency and accuracy, the Myth vs Facts Register empowers citizens to make informed decisions during the election," she said.

As the city approaches polling day, the initiative is expected to be a key tool for voters to make informed decisions. The platform will feature regularly updated information that addresses the spread of false news during the election period.

In an environment where misinformation spreads rapidly, particularly via social media, the CEO's office hopes that this register will provide a reliable and timely resource for voters and media professionals.

The launch of the "Myth vs Facts Register" comes as Delhi’s political scene grows increasingly charged. With multiple parties vying for control of the assembly, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress have been engaged in an intense battle.

Each party is determined to secure their foothold ahead of the elections, which are set to take place on February 5, with the counting of votes scheduled for February 8.
