Residents of the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) awoke to further rain showers on Monday morning. The continuation of light showers throughout the day prompted major airlines, including IndiGo and Air India, to issue warnings of potential flight delays and traffic congestion.
According to the latest forecast from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi is anticipated to experience light rain and drizzle. A yellow alert remains in effect for Gautam Buddha Nagar in Uttar Pradesh and Gurugram in Haryana.
Following a weekend of rainfall and the renewed showers on Monday morning, several airlines have released travel advisories for their passengers. SpiceJet, in a statement on the social media platform X, announced, "Due to bad weather (heavy rain) in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may be affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status."
Both IndiGo and Air India also issued advisories to their passengers on Monday. Air India posted on X, "Rain may impact flight operations to and from Delhi today. Please check your flight status before heading to the airport."
IndiGo’s advisory, also on X, specifically addressed the traffic situation, urging passengers to consider alternative routes. The airline stated, "Due to today’s downpour, several roads across Delhi are currently blocked or experiencing slow movement. Please allow extra time, take an alternate route if possible, and check your flight status on our website or app before leaving for the airport."
The downpour continued to affect the region. On Sunday, heavy rain in Delhi-NCR led to widespread traffic snarls and waterlogging issues. The IMD reported rainfall in various areas, including Preet Vihar, Rajeev Chowk, ITO, Jafarpur, India Gate, Akshardham, Safdarjung, and Lodi Road. Rainfall was also logged in Nehru Stadium, Defence Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Kalkaji, Ayanagar, and Deramandi on Sunday.
On the preceding Saturday, a red alert was issued for the capital region due to a period of heavy rain, accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms. The warning, issued at 5:11 pm and valid until 8:11 pm, advised residents to stay indoors and avoid low-lying or waterlogged areas.
