DRDO to Present Astra Missiles and Tejas Mk2 in Paris.

India’s premier defence research body, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is set to make a notable impact at the Paris Air Show 2025, offering a comprehensive display of indigenous aerospace and defence innovations.

The event, scheduled from 16 to 22 June at Le Bourget, France, is poised to serve as a key global platform for India to highlight its growing strategic and technological capabilities.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, DRDO confirmed its participation, stating that the organisation would be showcasing a variety of cutting-edge indigenous systems.

These include next-generation unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), advanced avionics, and home-grown defence platforms. The agency described its display as a testament to India’s “self-reliance, collaboration, and strategic capability on the global stage.”

Accompanying the announcement was a promotional video offering a preview of the technologies DRDO will present.

Among the highlights was the ‘Astra’ missile system, a Beyond-Visual-Range (BVR) class air-to-air missile designed to engage and destroy highly manoeuvrable supersonic targets in all-weather, day-and-night conditions.

The Astra is currently being developed in multiple variants, with the Astra Mk-I already integrated into the Indian Air Force’s SU-30 MKI fighter aircraft.

Also featured in the video was the Tejas Mk-2, formally known as the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Air Force Mark 2. This advanced fighter jet, developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), represents a significant step forward in India’s indigenous aircraft manufacturing efforts.

In addition, DRDO will exhibit the Weapon Locating Radar (WLR) ‘Swathi’, designed in collaboration with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). The radar is tailored to detect and track incoming hostile artillery, mortars, and rockets that disrupt military operations.

The Airborne Early Warning & Control System (AEW&C), another key item in DRDO’s line-up, will also be showcased. This airborne platform serves as a ‘force multiplier’ by detecting and tracking enemy aircraft and UAVs, significantly enhancing situational awareness.

DRDO will also present HELINA (Helicopter-based NAG), a third-generation, fire-and-forget anti-tank guided missile system. Designed to be deployed from the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), HELINA adds robust offensive capability to India’s rotary wing assets.

Furthermore, the exhibit will include SHYEN, a mid-life upgrade package for the Dornier aircraft. This upgrade aims to enhance the operational effectiveness of the aircraft through advanced sensor payloads and avionics enhancements.
