As Lieutenant Governor J&K Manoj Sinha chaired a security meeting on Sunday, Pradesh Congress Committee president Tariq Hameed Karra said that having two power centres in the UT is contradictory to the national interest.
He said the BJP’s “jingoistic and divisive politics” to weaken the Congress party is bound to fail as there is no one who can kill the ideology and core philosophy of the Congress.
While responding to a query on LG Sinha chairing a crucial security meet, Karra said, “I do not know whether the review of security is taking place today or not, but when the first time the LG reviewed the security situation, we expressed suspicion about attempts to create two power centres in Jammu and Kashmir, which is not in the national interest.”
He said on one side the LG is reviewing the security situation and on the other side Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is also reviewing the security situation in the valley, thus creating confusion.
Karra made these comments while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function organised here to pay tributes to former deputy chief minister Mangat Ram Sharma on his 92nd birth anniversary.
When asked about the recent statements made by the NC President, Dr Farooq Abdullah, on the BJP trying to weaken the Congress, Karra responded by saying, This is what the party leaders are saying repeatedly, but as far as his party is concerned, it faced similar unsuccessful attempts in the past by the “same forces.”
Karra acknowledged the recent dismal performance in the national and as well several state elections and said, “Nobody can decimate the party or finish it as no one can kill the party’s ideology and philosophy.”
Additionally, he said that Congress has already cleared its stance on Article 370 time and again, as well as the resolution passed by the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, and “so talking about stale things means providing cannon to the BJP.”
