External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has reaffirmed the deep-rooted and strategic relationship between India and Russia, stressing that India greatly values its ties with Moscow.

He emphasised that enhancing this "special and privileged strategic partnership" remains a shared priority for both countries in their foreign policy approach.

Addressing the “Russia and India: Towards a New Bilateral Agenda” conference through a video message, Jaishankar highlighted the historical strength of India-Russia relations, which he said are built on a foundation of trust and mutual respect.

He noted that these ties have continued to expand, even as the global order undergoes significant shifts and realignments.

Jaishankar underlined that both nations have consistently adapted to changing international dynamics and found new avenues for cooperation that contribute to regional and global stability.

He pointed to frequent high-level engagements and strong institutional mechanisms as key features of India-Russia diplomatic relations.

While India and Russia have traditionally collaborated in areas such as energy, defence, and civil-nuclear cooperation, Jaishankar noted that their partnership is now expanding into new domains.

Sectors like trade, technology, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, connectivity, and the digital economy are emerging as significant areas of cooperation.

He reiterated India's commitment to strengthening economic ties with Russia and reaffirmed the ambitious target of boosting bilateral trade to USD 100 billion by 2030.

This reflects the growing economic dimension of India-Russia relations and the two nations’ shared vision for deeper commercial engagement.

The conference, jointly organised by the Embassy of India in Russia and the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), brought together key officials and experts to discuss the evolving nature of bilateral ties.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit India.

According to Russian news agency TASS, preparations are already underway for Putin’s visit, signifying continued high-level engagement between the two nations.
