External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar paid a visit to the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, emphasising its significance as a cultural bridge between India and the UAE. He described the temple as a symbol of the strong friendship shared between the two nations, radiating a positive message globally.
Jaishankar, who is currently on an official visit to the UAE, shared his experience on X, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to visit the temple. He highlighted the BAPS Hindu Mandir's role in fostering cultural ties and promoting harmony between India and the UAE.
During his visit, Jaishankar is scheduled to meet with his counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to discuss a wide range of bilateral issues.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that the discussions would encompass the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and the UAE, as well as regional and global developments.
The BAPS temple in Abu Dhabi holds historical significance as the first traditional Hindu stone temple in the Middle East. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 14, underscoring the deep-rooted friendship between India and the UAE. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahyan, the UAE's Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence.
Prior to his visit to the UAE, Jaishankar visited Sri Lanka, where he held discussions with Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on June 20. He reiterated India's steadfast support for various development and connectivity projects in Sri Lanka.
This visit marks Jaishankar's first bilateral trip since being re-appointed as External Affairs Minister, following Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe's recent visit to India for Prime Minister Modi's swearing-in ceremony.
