Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde celebrated International Yoga Day by taking a political swipe at his competitors, referring to his 2022 rebellion as the "bada yoga" (big yoga) that changed the political scenery of the state.
On Friday, Shinde called the day when his group broke away from the Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena "marathon yoga" which provided political stability and development to Maharashtra.
'21 taarikh ko hi humne bada Yoga kiya tha' (On the 21st, we did a big yoga)," he said, referring to the June 2022 dramatic turn of events when the Maha Vikas Aghadi government collapsed.
"That yoga started from Mumbai, and due to that, Maharashtra changed a lot. Now we are seeing development.". Devendra Fadnavis and I are serving the people in the footsteps of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The original Shiv Sena, started by Bal Thackeray, broke into two factions in June 2022 following Shinde's rebellion. Ever since then, Shinde's faction and the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) have been engaged in a bitter political battle.
Shinde also extended greetings on International Yoga Day, acknowledging Prime Minister Modi’s efforts in bringing global recognition to yoga. “I greet everyone on International Yoga Day.
Due to PM Modi’s efforts, the UN has recognised this day, and the world now celebrates it,” he said. “PM Modi himself performs yoga daily, which keeps him healthy and fit. That is why he is capable of making the country and the economy strong. He also gave a lesson to Pakistan with Operation Sindoor.
The 11th International Day of Yoga was celebrated throughout India with widespread zeal.
The theme for the year, "Yoga for One Earth, One Health," is in accordance with India's vision of a healthy world and the interrelatedness of human and planet health. The theme also takes inspiration from the Indian philosophy of "Sarve Santu Niramaya" — may all be healthy.
