Former President Ram Nath Kovind is set to inaugurate the Tri-Service Tri-Nation Lord Buddha Circuit Bike Expedition in February, marking a unique collaboration among the armed forces of India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
The expedition, announced by organisers on Saturday, will feature 21 riders representing the three nations’ armed forces. Starting from Lumbini, Nepal – the birthplace of Lord Buddha – the riders will traverse seven Indian states before concluding their journey in Colombo, Sri Lanka 7 sacred places of worships in India
Sri Lanka President Anura Dissanayake is slated to attend the closing ceremony in Colombo.
“This extraordinary event is a landmark initiative aimed at fostering unity, peace and collaboration among India, Nepal and Sri Lanka, inspired by the teachings of Lord Buddha,” said Rahul Patil, convenor of the Tri-Service Tri-Nation Lord Buddha Circuit Bike Expedition.
The event, Patil noted, symbolises a collective journey of the three nations’ armed forces, exploring key Buddhist heritage sites and promoting spiritual tourism.
The expedition will showcase the Buddhist Circuit as a premier spiritual and heritage tourism destination, organisers added, while encouraging inter-regional travel and highlighting the shared cultural history of India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
The Indian leg of the journey will pass through Kushinagar, Sarnath, Gorakhpur, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, highlighting key Buddhist heritage sites.
Sri Lanka’s President Anura Dissanayake will grace the concluding ceremony in Colombo, underlining the significance of this cultural and spiritual collaboration.
