The Fijian Prime Minister, Sitiveni Ligamamada, had a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, on Monday. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Fijian leader held a joint press conference after their talks in New Delhi.

Prime Minister Modi spoke about the strong friendship between India and Fiji, saying that the hopes and dreams of both countries are in sync. During the meeting, both nations agreed on several important plans. These include setting up a hospital in Fiji, training Fijian cricketers and Pandits, sending Hindi and Sanskrit teachers from India to Fiji, and giving agricultural drones to Fiji.

After a meeting PM Modi and his Fiji counterpart, a joint statement was released. The two leaders strongly condemned the Pahalgam terrorist attack. They rejected double standards on terrorism. Both leaders agreed to work together more closely to fight terrorism and strongly opposed terrorism in every form it takes.

Both leaders strongly condemned the Pahalgam terrorist attack that killed 26 innocent people. They reaffirmed their zero tolerance for terrorism and opposed any double standards when it comes to dealing with terrorism. Both countries recognised the importance of working together to fight extreme ideas, stop funding for terrorism, prevent the use of new technologies by terrorists, and reduce terrorist recruitment and international organised crime through shared efforts and improving their abilities, the statement said.

India and Fiji decided to team up at the United Nations and other international meetings to fight against terrorism. The leaders talked about events happening in their region and around the world. They reminded each other of their common goal to promote peace, fairness for the environment, fair growth for everyone, and give more attention to the needs of countries in the Global South.

Prime Minister Rabuka praised India's leadership in the Global South. They thanked the valuable help and support given to each other in international meetings and discussions. Both leaders agreed that the UN needs major changes, including expanding the Security Council to have more members in both groups, so it can better match today's global situation.

Fiji stated it supports India as a permanent member of a redesigned and larger UN Security Council, and also backs India's bid for a non-permanent seat on the UNSC for the years 2028-2029. The leaders confirmed their commitment to making South-South cooperation even stronger, seeing it as essential for dealing with today's global issues.

They also agreed to collaborate on matters that affect the Global South, such as having a fair and equal say in international organisations that govern the world. Prime Minister Rabuka arrived in New Delhi on Sunday, beginning his official visit to India, which is scheduled to last until August 26.
