The investigation into the attack on actor Saif Ali Khan has revealed that the 19 sets of fingerprints found at his residence after the attempted burglary and knife attack do not match those of the accused, Shariful Islam.
Sources say that Mumbai Police sent the fingerprints to the state's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for analysis. A report from the CID confirmed that the fingerprints did not match Shariful's. The police have since sent more samples for additional testing.
On January 15, 54-year-old Saif Ali Khan was attacked in his home when an intruder broke in. When Mr. Khan confronted the intruder, he was stabbed six times, including a wound on his spine. The attacker managed to escape, and Saif Ali Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital with serious injuries.
Doctors reported that one of the stabs near his spine caused spinal fluid leakage, but fortunately, the knife was only 2 mm away from his spinal cord. He is now recovering well and was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday, advised to rest for a week.
The accused, Shariful Islam, is a Bangladeshi national who entered India illegally. He told the police that someone had promised to arrange fake citizenship documents for him in exchange for money, which led him to attempt the burglary at Saif Ali Khan's home. The police are now investigating the person who promised to help Shariful with the documents.

Mumbai Police also reached out to Western Railway to assist in identifying the intruder, who was captured on CCTV in the building where Saif Ali Khan lives. The accused was seen boarding a train from Bandra station, and the railway used facial recognition technology to identify potential suspects.
The footage of the intruder exiting the building was unclear, but Shariful was arrested based on CCTV images. Police are continuing their investigation to gather more evidence to strengthen their case against him.
