Following Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's remark that the nature and DNA of events in Ayodhya during Babur's era, Sambhal, and Bangladesh are the same, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav responded, saying, "Yogi Adityanath should first get his DNA checked."
Yadav remarked, "I’m not sure how much science or biology the chief minister understands, but I would like to request that he refrain from discussing DNA. Through you (the media), I say this with full responsibility — he should not talk about DNA. If he does, then we all want to get our DNA checked. The chief minister should also get his DNA tested... I want mine checked too," he added.
Yadav stated that such comments were unbefitting of Adityanath, particularly given his status as a saint and a yogi in saffron robes. "This language and talk of DNA do not suit him," he said.
Adityanath had made his statement in Ayodhya during the inauguration of the 43rd Ramayan Mela, where he accused opposition parties of attempting to divide society. He drew parallels between actions taken by Mughal emperor Babur’s army in Ayodhya 500 years ago and current events in Sambhal and Bangladesh.
"500 years ago, a general of Babur committed certain deeds in Ayodhya, similar acts in Sambhal, and what is happening today in Bangladesh... The nature and DNA of all three are the same," Adityanath had said.
Since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government in Bangladesh in August following intense student protests, there has been widespread violence against religious minorities, including Hindus. In Sambhal, violence erupted last month, leading to the deaths of four Muslim men following a survey of a local mosque.
