Birudev Siddappa Dhone, a young man from Yamge village in Kagal tehsil, Kolhapur district, Maharashtra, has achieved something remarkable. Despite his humble background, Birudev has passed the UPSC exam on his first try and secured the 551st rank.

Growing up as the son of a goat herder, Birudev used to spend his days grazing goats in the sun, wearing a blanket on a pole, a Gandhi cap, a stick in his hand, and big slippers. His life was far from easy, but now, after cracking the tough UPSC exam, he has made his family proud.

Birudev found out about his success in a surprising way. A friend ran to his maternal uncle's village, shouting excitedly that Birudev had passed the UPSC exam. His parents, who couldn’t read or write, didn’t fully understand, but they were still overjoyed. Birudev was the first person from Kagal tehsil to pass the UPSC exam. At the age of 27, he achieved his dream of becoming an IPS officer on his first attempt.

Birudev’s desire to become an IPS officer started after a personal incident. One day, his mobile phone got lost, and when he went to the police station to report it, they didn’t help him. It was then that Birudev decided he would become an IPS officer. From that moment, he worked hard, studying for 22 hours a day. He moved to Delhi to prepare for the UPSC exam and, through his dedication, brought pride to his family.

Birudev had already excelled in his studies. He passed his 10th and 12th exams with top marks at Murgud center in Kagal tehsil. After that, he went to SIOP Engineering College in Pune for further studies.

Birudev's family was not wealthy. His father, Siddapa Dhone, had studied only up to class 12, but after that, he worked as a goat herder. Despite the financial difficulties, Birudev always dreamed of becoming an officer. When he moved to Delhi for UPSC preparation, his father sent him 10,000 to 12,000 rupees each month, which was not easy for them to afford. With that money, Birudev managed to survive and continue his studies.

Though Birudev’s father suggested several times that he should find another job, Birudev stayed determined to pursue his dream. His hard work paid off, and he is now an IPS officer, fulfilling his dream.
